Alcohol - Facts

bulletIn a survey of 140 colleges, frequent binge drinkers were 7-10 times more likely to:
    have unplanned sex
    have sex without using condoms
    get into trouble with campus police, damage property, or be injured
bulletMore than half of all high school students had at least 1 alcoholic drink and 32.6% had 5 or more drinks on at least one occasion during the 30 days preceding a 1995 national survey.
bulletOn sample college campuses, alcohol was involved in 2/3 of student suicides, 90% of rapes, and 95% of violent crimes.
bulletAn estimated 10 million adults and 3 million teenagers in the U.S. are alcoholics.
bullet54% of people in state prisons who were convicted of violent crimes had used alcohol just before the offense.
bulletWomen develop complications of alcoholism, such as liver damage, hypertension, anemia and malnutrition, faster and after less alcohol intake than men.
bullet87% of teens have used alcohol by the time they reach 12th grade.
